Breaking: INEC in emergency meeting over presidential election 

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is considering postponing tomorrow’s presidential and national assembly’s elections.
Ahead of the presidential and national assembly elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 16, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are currently having an emergency meeting.

According to reports, the urgent meeting was as a result of the challenges facing the exercise as materials needed for the elections have not been distributed in some states. INEC is holding the emergency meeting with security officials, election observers and other stakeholders. The Cable reports that Osa Nehikhare, secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, accused the commission of conniving with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sabotage the elections.

“It’s 7.00pm on the eve of the presidential and national assembly elections and materials for Edo are not available. This sabotage was orchestrated and a danger to our democracy,” he said in a statement. “They want stand-alone elections so they can deploy their agents of intimidation and harassment.” On its part, Daily Trust, quoting an inside source, claims that the meeting may be a game changer on the anticipated presidential election. Recall that in 2015, the general elections was shifted from the initial dates over security reasons. The presidential/national assembly election was shifted from February 14 to March 28 while the governorship/states assemblies election was shifted from February 28 to April 11.
